We at AAI Neptune Divers receive several e-mails about people coming to Las Vegas and wanting to dive Lake Mead, as a result we have put together this reply to answer most of the common questions. If your questions are not answered by this reply then feel free to follow up with more specific questions.

Overview

Lake Mead and the Colorado River below Hover Dam offer some of the finest inland fresh water diving in the world. In fact they have been rated as one of the Top 10 dive locations for fresh water in the world. With over a thousand miles of shoreline every dive can be a new adventure of discovery. Several sites have been set-aside just for divers. Some require a boat, while others can be accessed from shore. If it’s easy site seeing, deep exploration, cavern, or swift water drift diving Lake Mead and the Colorado River can fulfill you needs.

General Stats.

*  Water Temperature at surface in the winter gets down to 54F and summer up to 82F

*  Water Temperature at depth stays around 54F.

*  Below the Dam the river is about 54 year round

*  Visibility goes from about 100 feet in winter to 20 feet in summer

*  Lake maximum elevation is about 1225 feet above sea level. An adjustment of +1 foot is needed to correct for dive tables. (a 100 foot dive would be a 101 foot dive at sea level)

*  Air temperature in winter ranges from low 40s to mid 70s but summers can reach 115F with a high UV factor. Sunburn is a real problem suggest SPF 45+

*  Night diving is always special at Lake Mead. Give it a try.

*  With fishing licenses you may spear fish Strip Bass and Carp.

Shop Information

*  AAI Neptune Divers is located at 5831 East Lake Mead Blvd about 10 miles form the famous Las Vegas Strip on the north east side of the valley and 14 miles from the lake.

*  Lake Mead is located about 24 miles east of the strip

*  You can go right by AAI Neptune Divers to get to the lake

*  AAI Neptune Divers is a full service scuba shop with rentals and air fills.

*  A full rental package is $45 per day for two tanks, BC, Wet Suit, Regulator, and weights.

*  Mask Fins Snorkel and Booties rental cost $15 per day

*  We DO NOT offer Boat trips on Lake Mead, but we do have a 2 man Kayak for rental  Rental and can send you out with a local Divemaster/Guide for $50.

*  Scuba Kayaks, by Ocean Kayaks, rent for $45 per day and is a great way to reach some of the more exciting spots to dive.

*  Store hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM with the exception of Wednesday when we close. Saturday and Sundays we open at 9:00 am and close at 5:30 PM

*  Rental periods are for 24 hours and we do require a deposit on all rental gear.

*  We offer some specialty classes not found in most dive location such as River Diving ($250) Kayak Scuba Diving ($150) Fresh Water Experience ($100). We also offer technical classes such as Nitrox, Technical Nitrox, Deep Diving to 200 feet and a host of others.

*  AAI Neptune Divers has a NAUI Course Directors on staff and can run a full Instructor Training Course (ITCs).

Suggestions

*  Bring your Personal gear but rent your BC, Wetsuit, Regulator, Tanks and Weights

*  Call ahead about 1 week for reservations. 702-452-5723

*  Plan on renting a car to get around. We do not offer transportation or pick-up service

*  Stay in one of the major hotels. They are the best deal usually.

*  Stay and Play in Las Vegas at least one day after diving.

*  In winter bring a warm jacket and in summer plenty of sun block

*  Plan at least one full day to dive and enjoy the wonderful Lake Mead National Recreation area.
